Pregnancy Testing

How soon after a missed period can I do a pregnancy test?

It is possible to do a pregnancy test on the first day of a missed period. At this stage you would need a sample of your first urine of the day as this would have the highest concentration of the pregnancy hormone.

What should I put the sample in?

Always collect the sample in a clean container. Specimen bottles are available from chemists, or from CedarOak. If you use a container that has had something else in, make sure it is very well rinsed out.

Where can I get a pregnancy test?

  • You can buy a test at the chemist to do at home – it is important to follow the instructions carefully
  • CedarOak will provide a free pregnancy test and immediate results
  • Family Planning Clinic (or Sex Sense for young people)

What would happen if I came to CedarOak for a pregnancy test?

We would take your urine sample, or provide you with a bottle to produce a sample. After taking a few details from you, we would be able to give you a test result within 10 minutes.

If I am unhappy with my result, will I have a chance to talk to someone?

The counsellor who does the test for you will be available for as long as you need.

If I have a test at CedarOak will anyone know about it?

CedarOak provides a confidential service, your results will be given to you in writing and no-one else will be told.
